Multimodal Analgesia: Role of Regional Anesthesia Approaches

About the webinar: Multimodal approaches to analgesia in the perioperative setting should be utilized to aid patients in their recovery, potentially reduce opioid requirements along with associated adverse side effects and increase patient satisfaction. Appropriate postoperative multimodal pain management strategies may consist of systemic intravenous and oral routes for delivery of pharmacologic agents as well as regional anesthesia approaches including neuraxial (also known as intraspinal) and nerve blocks. This presentation will address the purpose and use of regional anesthesia approaches for surgical and acute pain.

Educational objectives:

  • Describe the neurophysiologic principles utilized in regional anesthesia pain management.
  • Identify regional anesthesia techniques utilized for acute pain management.​
  • Address prevention of adverse events associated with regional anesthesia techniques.
